Top Ten Tuesday (TTT) brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish.
January 24: FREEBIE — that super specific list you want to make?? All yours to tackle this week!
Hmmm…it’s been a while since we’ve had a freebie week. Topic possibilities are endless! I’ve done Halloween Awards, Witches, Teachers, Audio Books, Literary Couples, Childhood Favorites, Sunny California, and Books to Step in To, to name a few.
I thought it would be fun to revisit book quotes, and pick my favorites from 2016. Then I realized I had a couple of good ones from the end of 2015, so I threw those in too. And that took me up to eleven book quotes and I didn’t want to cut any out. It’s freebie week, so you get what you get. Eleven it is! Here we go.
Top Ten Eleven Favorite Book Quotes I Read in 2016 (ish)
If you click on the picture, it goes to my book review. Some are serious quotes, some are funny. Some of the books had more than one quote, making it tough to choose my favorite. Especially for Noah’s Wife.
And I’ll let you in on a secret – These are all great quotes. But I think “Oh, Calamity.” is my favorite.
Do you have a favorite quote or two that you read last year? What was your freebie topic this week? Sound off below, and link up to your own TTT if you’ve got one!
Love, love, love that Eleanor & Park quote. Great choices today!

Thank you! I need to get better about saving quotes in my reviews again – I dropped off in the second half of the year. Always fun to go back and read them. 🙂

I have a favorite insult I read. Does that count? “You have a mind like the rings of Saturn… A million miles wide and an inch deep.”

Thanks! I try to do a quote graphic for each book review but I just didn’t have as much time in the last half of the year. Hoping to have more reviews with quotes this year. 🙂

Thank you! It’s fun to make the graphics, but sometimes I just don’t have the time so I don’t get a quote in my book review. Going to try and be better about that this year!

I should make note of great quotes in books I read… I just don’t. I’ll have to work on that. Love the way you present these, too. 🙂 My TTT

I started making note in 2015. I try to get at least one quote per review but fell off the wagon in the last half of the year. 🙂

Nice quotes. Oh Calamity might be my favorite too because I love Big Little Lies, but I really like The Little Paris Bookshop as well and Three Martini Lunch. Great picks!

Thanks! I agree – I loved Big Little Lies and how she used Oh Calamity throughout the novel. There are so many great quotes out there. It’s nice to go back and revisit them. 🙂

I love the butter quote! All of these are great but that one especially made me happy. I’m a big fan of butter. I’m not really a quote person but I always enjoy reading them!

I know, the butter quote was so good. I’m like that too. We’re not around forever, and I want to enjoy butter while I’m here! 🙂

Love your pretty graphics and all these quotes! I haven’t read “Big Little Lies” yet (I may just skip right ahead to the show) and I was surprised to see that’s where “Oh, calamity” came from. I was expecting a Victorian murder mystery or the like!
One of my goals for the new year is to be better at writing down quotes I like in books (right now I snap photos with my phone and then promptly forget about them), and I recently got a pretty notebook for just that purpose!

Right at the beginning of Big Little Lies, we learn that one of the little girls read a book where a character said, “Oh, Calamity!” and the family just picked it up and started using it. Ms. Moriarty uses it throughout the book and I loved it. We use it at home some times. 🙂 Snapping a photo of the quote is smart! I try to highlight in my ebooks, and use little post-it tabs on my physical books. But sometimes I just forget. Hoping to get even more quotes this year!

Thanks! Yes, Carry On was full of great quotes. I had trouble picking for my book review. I loved that book. Rainbow Rowell is so great!

Awesome list! The butter quote is great!
One of my recents favoritesis this hilarious gem:
“I often wonder why the whole world is so prone to generalise. Generalisations are seldom if ever true and are usually utterly inaccurate.”
― Agatha Christie, Murder at the Vicarage

I know, isn’t the butter quote the best! I love that one. That is a great Agatha Christie. I haven’t read one of her mysteries in probably 20 years. I need to get back on that bandwagon. Thanks for sharing!
