Top Ten Tuesday (TTT) brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish.
Halloween Themed Freebie
your choice (ie. 10 best ghost stories, 10 things that scare you in books, 10 literary Halloween costumes, 10 vampire novels, 10 books that WILL scare you, 10 non-scary books for Halloween, 10 scariest covers, etc.)
When I started thinking of this freebie, one thing came to mind. Witches.
Now I’ve only thought of eight books this week, not ten. But they are eight fantastic books, so I think that makes up for not hitting ten.
Top Eight Bewitching Books
Looking for something witchy to read? Might I suggest:
- The Witching Hour (Lives of the Mayfair Witches) by Anne Rice
- A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy) by Deborah Harkness
- The Line (Witching Savannah) by J.D. Horn
- Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (The Wicked Years) by Gregory MacGuire
- Opal Fire (A Stacy Justice Mystery) by Barbra Annino
How about something more kid-friendly?
- Bedknob and Broomstick by Mary Norton
- Falling In by Frances O’Roark Dowell
And of course I would be remiss if I did not include my favorite series featuring wizards and witches. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
What would your topic be for this Halloween freebie? What witch books did I miss? Comment below and link up to your own TTT if you’ve got one.
Happy Halloween!
I haven’t read them all, but the ones I have read ARE fantastic! I especially love the Mayfair witches. Here’s my TTT.

Thanks Carrie! And I *love* your list. I mean, Nancy Drew AND Benedict Cumberbatch (I mean Sherlock Holmes) – how do you top that? 😉

I felt like I had read a lot more books about witches until I started this list. I think I must watch them more on TV than read about them. 😉

Great topic! Witches are oh so Halloween-y. I haven’t read any of these though I do have the Deborah Harkness series on my TBR and I’m about to start After Alice by Gregory MaGuire. Oh and I want to read Bedknobs and Broomstics!

I will say that I read Bedknob and Broomstick because I love the Disney film (Bedknobs and Broomsticks). The book is definitely different, and I still enjoy the film more than the book. (Which is a rarity.)
I loved the first book in Deborah Harness’ series, it was my favorite.
I have some other witch books on my list too, but I haven’t gotten to them yet. Dorothy Must Die is one that comes to the top of my head.

Great list! Discovery of Witches was great. I need to finish reading the rest of the trilogy.
One book featuring a witch that I really like is Dime Store Magic by Kelley Armstrong.

Thank you! I will look into that book.
I loved Discovery of Witches. The other two in the trilogy were okay, but didn’t have the same magic for me that the first one did.

Good to know! I’m not big on time travel, so that’s why I’ve been putting off reading the second book in the trilogy.

Thank you! I love your topic too. I mean, who doesn’t like Stephen King at Halloween time? (Well, I mean besides those who don’t like him in general. 😉 )
