January 2022 Wrap-Up

Hello my fellow readers! Getting this out later than I planned, I guess better late than never. Let’s take a look at January, shall we?

January Reads

I am a mood reader for sure, and this month turned into the month of Christie! I read two of her mysteries plus two very different fictionalized accounts of her eleven-day disappearance in December 1924.

  • The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont. 5 Stairs. My favorite book this month! I thought this would be about Agatha Christie, but ultimately it’s not Agatha’s story at all. It’s the (fictional) story of her husband’s mistress. A beautiful, bittersweet read.
  • Hercule Poirot’s Christmas by Agatha Christie. 5 Stairs. A fantastic closed room mystery full of family drama (a la Knives Out), a perfect mystery to read at the holidays.
  • The Dark Hours by Michael Connelly. 4.5 Stairs. The latest Bosch and Ballard novel did not disappoint!
  • The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict. 4.5 Stairs. If you are looking to learn more about Agatha Christie’s early life and possible motives in her eleven day disappearance, this book is for you. It is fictional, but based on fact.
  • Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano. 4 Stairs. Finlay Donovan is back! In this book she finds herself trying to figure out who has put a hit out on her ex-husband.
  • Twenty Years Later by Charlie Donlea. 4 Stairs. A compelling mystery full of twists and turns.
  • Death in Cornwall by G.M. Malliet. 4 Stairs. A mystery set in the British countryside with plenty of suspects!
  • To Catch a Thief by David Dodge. 4 Stairs. Classic crime – I need to re-watch the Alfred Hitchcock film after reading this classic.
  • Practice to Deceive by Ann Rule. 3 Stairs. True crime. A look into the death of Russel Douglas.
  • The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie. 3 Stairs. The first 75% was a great mystery. The end got a little convoluted for me.
