Top Ten Tuesday (TTT) brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish.
Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession
This includes bought, library, and review copies. Including all three categories, how do you keep this list down to just 10?
I did my best and came in at 12. Sorry. I could have made it much longer. So many great books out there and it was tough to make cuts between the three groups.
Review Copies
The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George
Saw this one on a lot of TTT lists a few weeks ago. I think it was the list for top ten anticipated releases through the end of 2015. It sounded fantastic and I was so lucky to get approved for this ARC.
X by Sue Grafton
Currently reading this one. I love it! So great to be back with Kinsey Millhone again.
Elijah Dart: Angel of Death by Jonathan Ferrara
I actually just read this one the other day, look for a review coming soon! Bottom line? I think it’s a great start to an interesting series.
Silent Nights: Christmas Mysteries Edited by Martin Edwards
I’ve read two British Classic mystery collections this year, and I’m excited for this Christmas collection!
Library Books
Looking at my library account, I only have 13 items out. Which is really unusual for me. I have been cutting back on my checkouts due to all of the fabulous ARCs I have been receiving. Just not enough time to read everything before they are due back. Here’s my last three check out’s.
Killing Paton: The Strange Death of World War II’s Most Audacious General by Bill O’Reilly & Martin Dugard
I also have a hardback copy of this book that I bought at the same time as A.J. Fikry. BUT I just haven’t gotten around to reading it. Saw this audio version in the library and picked it up. Not sure if I’ll like the audio version but figured I would give it a shot.
The Lost Island by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child
Another audio book. Almost done with this one.
Museum of the Missing: A History of Art Theft by Simon Houpt
This is my second attempt to read this book. I had it checked out last winter, but never had time to crack it open. It sounds really interesting and hopefully I will get to it this time.
Purchased Books
I don’t purchase many books anymore. I usually check out from the library. I do have my favorite authors that I will buy (Stephen King, JK Rowling, Elizabeth George, Jenny Lawson, MC Beaton, Alex Grecian all come to mind as I type that sentence.) And I do buy the occasional ebook bargain when BookBub sends out an email. I did buy from BookOutlet for the first time recently which was super fun and I bought a few books I normally wouldn’t have purchased.
Insanity (Mad in Wonderland) by Cameron Jace
Saw this ebook on BookBub the other day and bought it.
Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
My only other ebook in the purchased category. This was a bargain a few weeks ago, and I picked it up. I’ve seen so many people raving about this series!
Finders Keepers by Stephen King
Instabuy on this book as it’s part of the Mr. Mercedes trilogy. Haven’t read it yet…because I still need to read Mr. Mercedes.
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry: A Novel by Gabrielle Zevin
I’ve been wanting to read this one, and finally just went ahead and bought it.
Miss Dimple Disappears: A Mystery by Mignon F. Ballard
I’ve read another Miss Dimple which I enjoyed, and this was a bargin at Book Outlet, so it ended up in my order. Funny how that happens,
…Along with Miss Dimple, I had another five books in that order, but this list is supposed to stay down to 10. And I’m at 12 books as it is.
What about you? What books are currently in your possession? (Aha! Now you see how hard it is to get it down to just ten.) Let me know in the comments, and as always link up to your own top ten list!
IT was VERY hard to mention just the last 10! I see several here I’d like to add to my collection…here’s my list this week: http://booksthething.com/2015/07/14/last-ten-books-to-come-into-my-possession/

I honestly had trouble remembering what order I got things in as well in terms of library books, ARCs, and purchases mixed together. I figured 12 was close enough. 😉

Daughter of Smoke and Bone is one I’m considering reading, I’d be interested to see your thoughts on it when you’ve read it.

I’ve seen it on so many lists, and when it came up on sale I figured I would give it a try. Now the question is when can I get to it? 😉

I really enjoyed AJ Fikry but I kind of expected it be earth shaking based off some of the reviews I read and it wasn’t. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if I hadn’t have listened to the hype quite as much. Adding Miss Dimple, Museum of the Missing and Killing Patton to my TBR. You’re really a terrible influence! Enjoy your new reads!

The TBR list just keeps on growing, doesn’t it?! So far I’ve read Killing Lincoln and KIlling Kennedy in that series. Really enjoyed Killing Lincoln, it was a great narration. Very factual but it felt like a thriller. Kennedy I liked but not as much. O’Reilly totally discounts the conspiracy theories, and I am one that has a hard time swallowing the lone gunman theory. I do like this series as they are non-fiction but he keeps his politics out of the book. 🙂

I almost started X last night – I’m really looking forward to it! The hardcover is on my must have list to go with my collection when it’s released as well.

X is so fantastic so far! i’m about halfway through. I love that Sue Grafton keeps Kinsey and the stories fresh with each novel. Enjoy!!

Ooh, Christmas in July! A cozy Christmas mystery sounds so fun right now — and the weather we’ve been having is kind of fitting for one — unusually cool and rainy.
I’m intrigued by “Museum of the Missing” and about to go look it up, and eventually i’ll read all the “Killing” books by Bill O’Reilly. My Grandma even read “Killing Patton” and liked it. I hope you enjoy “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry.” It was one of my faves last year.

I had another Christmas Cozy ARC I took out to get the list down – another in the British Crime Classics series. The Santa Klaus Murder by Mavis Doriel Hay, originally published in 1936. I’m looking forward to both!
I love books about real life art theft. I’ve read a few others as well.
I’m looking forward to A.J. Fikry! It sounds so great. 🙂

I was wondering what Grafton would use for “X”. 🙂
I’m a big fan of the Preston/Child duo, but haven’t tried their Gideon Crew series.

I’m a big fan of the Pendergast novels. This one has been okay. I like Gideon as a character, but the setting hasn’t been my favorite. I’m willing to give another book in the series a shot though.

Thanks, I’ve heard they’re not as good as the other series. I have the first one, it just keeps getting shoved back. I should drag it out for the “soon” pile.

I’m looking forward to what you think of Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Kristi! I’ve heard great things about that trilogy as well. And I also got my review copy of The Little Paris Bookshop (we have that in common this week!) this week and I’m hoping it’ll be great!

You’ve recently acquired some good books. I love the Storied Life of AJ Fikrey and the Daughter of Smoke and Bones. Stiefvater is amazing. Did you see her at Comic-Con?
