The Maid. A Mini Review.

December 29, 2021 / beckmank / 4 Comments

5/5 Stairs. An endearing character. An engaging locked-room style mystery. A book about perceptions. A great story from start to finish.

About

Almost 30 years ago I read my first Nancy Drew book, "The Hidden Staircase." I've had a love affair with mysteries ever since. -Kristi.

We went on vacation for a week in July. I brought four books, but only managed to read two of them. Loved them both, and each book ended up speaking to me on a personal level as well.
4/5 Stairs to The Charmed List by Julie Abe. Super cute YA romcom with a sprinkle of magic. Ellie has created a list of 13 items to complete over the summer so she can stop being a wallflower. She's enlisted her best friend Lia to help check items off the list as they take a road trip down California's cost. The problem? Before they leave, they tackle item #4 on the list -Revenge on Jack Yasuda - which doesn't go as planned, instead turning Ellie's world upside down. Now she's got to make her road trip with none other than her number one enemy - you guessed it, Jack - and try to face her list on her own.
Hello August! In all honesty, I’m probably going to keep my reading light this month with more cozy mysteries and romcoms. However, I loved the dark coloring in my #alwaysfullybookedplanner (by @littleinklingsdesign ! Gorgeous, right??) so I pulled some dark books from the shelf. I still need to read all of these! If I do pick one of the books in this photo up, which should it be?
3.5 Stairs to The Paper Caper by Kate Carlisle. Fun cozy mystery for book lovers! This is set in San Francisco and centers around a library fundraiser - The Mark Twain Festival. This mystery is character-focused, and the book builds at a slow pace. I had not read a book in this series before, but had no problem picking this up and enjoying it.
