Welcome back to our weekly Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
February 13: Love Freebie (Romances, swoons, OTPs, kisses, sexy scenes, etc.)
Happy Valentine’s Day to all you Book Lovers out there!
Long time readers are probably aware that here at Hidden Staircase in addition to my love of books, I also have a love for music, film, and television too. I thought that this week it would be fun to do a list that reflects my latest television obsession (Riverdale) through my love of music.
The Bookish Connection. (Yes! There is one!)
I remember grocery shopping with my dad when I was small and when we got to the checkout lane, he picked up an Archie Comics Digest for me. I’d never read Archie before, but my dad assured me that I would love it. He was right.
Riverdale is a grittier version of Archie comics that comes to life on your television, right down to Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe. It features the classic characters I love with a Veronica Mars feel. I’ve only been able to watch season one, which I recently finished over on Netflix. Jason Blossom mysteriously disappears and later turns up murdered. What secrets are lurking under the surface in the quiet town of Riverdale?
I’m anxiously awaiting season two, which is currently airing on The CW, so only the most recent four eps are available to watch. You definitely need to watch Archie & Co. in order, as there is an overarching mystery to the season.
For the Love of Riverdale (Music)
I’ve always loved film soundtracks, but — aside from Twin Peaks whose soundtrack I still have — I never thought much of the music playing during my favorite TV shows. That is, until I started watching The O.C. That show had such great music, each and every week. I discovered Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, and many others thanks to the early seasons of that show.
Riverdale is much the same – the soundtrack every week is fantastic. There are new songs and remixes of old songs, and so many different genres in each episode. I thought I would take this opportunity to highlight ten of my favorites. You can find these ten (and more) over at my For the Love of Riverdale playlist on Spotify.
(Thanks to tunefind for helping me identify all these.)
If You See My Boyfriend – Donora
Waves – Dean Lewis
All Through the Night – Riverdale Cast (Originally performed by Cyndi Lauper)
Into the Black – The Chromatics (Remake of Neil Young’s Hey Hey, My My)
Mustang Kids – Zella Day featuring Baby E
Breakdown – Bag Raiders
One More Chance – Charlie Faye and the Fayettes
No Surprise – The Shacks
Shut Up – Anya Marina
Float – Jude Shuma
Do you watch a show that is based on a favorite book or comic? Do you have a show where you enjoy the music just as much as the story? Do any of you watch Riverdale or am I all by myself over here? I’ve had Riverdale saved on my Netflix for awhile, but haven’t gotten a chance to start it yet (too many books to read!) but after reading this I might as well get on it 🙂
