TTT: Listen Up!

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday (TTT) brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish.

September 20: All About Audio freebie —  aka top ten audiobooks you should listen to, 10 books I want to listen to on audio,10 bands you should check out, 10 podcasts you should be listening to, 10 of my all time favorite albums, 10 songs I love, really whatever you can come up with.

OK. I had a plan for this week. I was going to do TWO LISTS for all you lovely people out there because I wanted to highlight amazing audio books, and do a song list as well because I love to listen to music.

As I started to create my audio book list I realized it was starting to feel familiar. Probably because…

I did this as a Top Ten Tuesday topic back in April 2016: For the Love of Narration

TTT_AudioBooks

So instead of rehashing it all here, I’ll just let you take a look at that post if you missed it. My only change would be I’d smoosh the Jim Dale books into one entry, and add Ready Player One, which I am reading right now. It’s narrated by the fabulous Wil Wheaton and I’m loving it.

With the audio book list out of the way (that was easy), it’s time to focus on the music.

For the Love of Music.

Music is a big part of my life. When I was growing up, my dad always had a record on (later a CD). I learned from my dad that when a song come on in the car that was deemed “good,” you “turned it up.” (He never seemed to turn the volume back down.) I play several instruments. My boys play instruments. I love to listen to music. I have music playing all day long (when I’m not listening to an audio book, that is). I even listen to music while I read. It drives my husband crazy. 😉

I thought about trying to do an ultimate top ten favorite songs EVER, but I realized I just can’t do it. I have too much music that I love to pick a top ten most favorite favorites. (My playlist with my current favorites to listen to is a mere 270 songs long.) Instead, I thought, if I were to make a playlist to share with you RIGHT THIS SECOND, what ten songs would I pick to be on it? These are them.

If I were to make this list tomorrow, it would probably come out a little different. You just never know what I’ll be in the mood for.

1.Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles.

My favorite song by my favorite band.

2. Harvest Moon – Neil Young.

This live version is from the movie Heart of Gold.

3. Bittersweet – Big Head Todd and the Monsters.

One day I will see BHTM perform this song at Red Rocks.

4. Fire and the Flood – Vance Joy.

5. Viva la Vida – Coldplay.

6. Sedona – Houndmouth.

We love to sing this one in the car. We all shout “So bright and pink!” at the end. 🙂

7. What You Thought You Need – Jack Johnson.

8. Ophelia – The Lumineers.

9. Daylight – Matt and Kim.

10. Golden – My Morning Jacket.

I hadn’t seen this live recording before. A little slower than the studio recording, but I like it.

11. Adelaide – Old 97’s.

12. You Can Call Me Al – Paul Simon.

Originally I had “Ceclia” By Simon and Garfunkel here. But I love this video. 🙂

13. Crimson and Clover – Tommy James & The Shondells

14. Close to Me – The Cure

15. Out of the Woods – Ryan Adams

16. Sweet Thing – Van Morrison

17. May This Be Love – The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

No YouTube video for this one, but you can hear it on Spotify. Beautiful.

Ok, I couldn’t keep it to ten. Sue me.

Did you have a tough time deciding which direction to go with this week’s audible topic like I did? Do you have an audio book to recommend to me? What is your favorite song? (It’s tough to just pick one isn’t it?  Just like picking a favorite book!) Sound off in the comments below, and link up to your own TTT if you’ve got one.

  1. Here Comes the Sun- great pick! And I LOVE Harvest Moon by Neil Young- awesome song and I love listening to it this time of year. 🙂 I like that Jack Johnson song too, and some of The Cure’s stuff as well.

Crimson and Clover I haven’t heard in forever.

    Nice list.

    • Wil is the perfect narrator for Ready Player One! The main character is Wade but I keep thinking its Wil, lol. 🙂 I tried to keep the list to 10, but there’s just too many great songs out there. 🙂

  2. How funny — out of all the possible topics we picked almost the same one. I did my favorite bands/artist if you asked me RIGHT THIS MINUTE because, like you, who knows what I’ll feel like tomorrow! I listen to music all the time too, and it bothers my husband because he’d much rather have the TV on for background noise. Usually he wins though, because he’ll just turn on the TV anyway, but I can’t have that much disparate noise happening at one time!

Sit down and share a cuppa with me. Let's discuss.
