Top Ten Tuesday (TTT) brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish.
I can immediately think of a lot of movies/TV shows that fit this week’s top ten topic, but not nearly as many books. It took a bit of pondering, but I was able to get my list to ten.
I am short on time this week, so I’m keeping this TTT short and sweet. This week’s topic…
Ten Fairy Tale Retellings I’ve Read/Want To Read
As usual, my list is in no particular order within the two groups (read/want to read).
Fairy Tale Retellings that I’ve Read
- Cinder by Marissa Meyer
- Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson
- Wicked by Gregory Maguire
- Land of Stories by Chris Colfer
Fairy Tale Retellings that I Want to Read
- Spelled by Betsy Schow
- Splintered by A.G. Howard
- Insanity by Cameron Jace
- Grounded by Megan Morrison
- Fables Vol 1: Legends in Exile by Bill Willingham, Lan Medina , Steve Leialoha , Craig Hamilton , James Jean
- Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
Making this list has me excited to start these books! What retellings made your list? Comment away, and link up to your own TTT if you’ve got one.
Cinder and Wicked made my list too – http://booksthething.com/2015/08/04/top-ten-fairytale-retellings/.

I’m so glad Peter and the Starcatchers is getting some more love!
I’m looking forward to Insanity myself. 🙂
Check out my TTT.

I have had Wicked and Cinder on my list for so long! Just found Spelled yesterday. That sounds amazing! & Dorothy Must Die looks great too. Too little hours in the day for this!
My list is: Top Ten Tuesday

I liked Wicked, but it is different from the musical. I read the whole series, but liked Wicked the best. I need to get going on the rest of the Lunar Chronicles (Cinder). We need more hours in the day for sure!!

Cinder made my list (which was just a short TBR). I had a hard time of even coming up with ones to read let alone what I had read!! Great choices and I need to check some of these out!

I know, it was a tough one. I kept asking my boys, “can you think of any more fairy tale retellings?!” So this was a group TTT. 🙂 We’ve read Peter and the Starcatchers and Land of Stories together.

Haha, jumping in to say that I get my kids’ help on some of my TTTs too. 😀

I have heard such good things about Cinder, but I just don’t know if I could embrace a steampunk Cinderella lol. I guess I should give it a try 🙂 My TTT list

I enjoyed Cinder. It’s a great twist – she’s actually part cyborg. As a girl she was in a horrific car accident and to save her life they had to replace parts of her with machinery. Really interesting way to handle the fairy tale and move it to a sci-fi realm.

I totally forgot about Dorothy Must Die and Spelled. Both are on my TBR. I guess I have more I want to read than I do ones I have already read. Nice list.

Thanks! That happens to me every single week. I see other people’s lists and then it clicks, that book should be on my list!

I have been meaning to read Peter and the Starcatchers forever. I need to check my ereader to find out if I actually downloaded it, or just thought about downloading it. 😛

It’s a fun book. I actually listened to the audio book (Jim Dale narrates, he narrates Harry Potter as well) and it was so much fun to listen to!

Good suggestion! I’m always looking for good audiobook recommendations.

I need to read Cinder ASAP! I’ve been wanting to for so long and haven’t yet.
I got a free e-book of Insanity last week and I’m so excited to start that!
Great book choices! So many that I want to read!

Thanks! I am excited about insanity as well – I picked up the discounted ebook about a month ago. Need to start it. 🙂

We got Grounded in at the library a couple of weeks ago and I was immediately drawn to it because of the cover. Rapunzel!

Melissa Annelli from the Harry Potter fandom just raved about it a few months ago. I bought it but haven’t started it yet…

I want to read all the ones you want to too! Splintered has been on my tbr pile for so long, I really need to get on that. I listed my favourites here: https://lipsyy.wordpress.com/2015/08/04/top-ten-tuesday-inspired-by-fairy-tales/

I wasn’t a big fan of Dorothy Must Die or Spintered (but that cover!). I really want to read Spelled though. Great list!

Oh no, those two I was looking forward to. I love the Spelled cover as well!

I think fairy tale books just have amazing covers in general. I believe I gave those two books two-stars, but there are some bloggers that seem to love them.

Cinder has been on my TBR for what feels like forever! I’ve seen Splintered on a couple of lists today and I’m kind of intrigued, so I’ll probably check it out.

Funny I was just looking at your list! I like how you did it. I think the cover on Splintered is gorgeous! That’s what attracted me. 🙂 Insanity looks fun too.

Fables is awesome! I’ve only read the first five or so books, but they are definitely a more ‘adult’ take on fairy tale characters!

I completely forgot about Gregory Maguire when I was working on my list — and I’ve read either 3 or 4 of his fairy tale retellings! I’m glad someone remembered to include Wicked. Nice list!

I liked Wicked, but I read it after seeing the Broadway show. I like the show better. 🙂

That is one of the biggest reasons why I want to read it so much – I want to see the show some day, and I want to have read the book first!
