February 27: Books I Could Re-read Forever
Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday! This week is an interesting topic…re-reading books. Now, if this were movies, I’d have trouble keeping my list to just ten. I love to watch movies, and rewatch my favorites all the time. But books? Re-reading books is a trickier subject.
There are some books that you may have enjoyed, but you just don’t need to reread them. Take Gone Girl for instance. Loved that book, a real page turner. But I don’t think it would be nearly as good the second time, once you know the twists and turns.
I know some people only read a book once because they loved it so much and are afraid if they read it again, they won’t love it as much or find fault with it.
For me, I think many books that I loved reading are one timers. I enjoyed it immensely, and am ready for my next book. There are so many unread books on my TBR. I’ve got 9 series/books on my list this week.
- Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene
- Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
- Hamish Macbeth series by M.C. Beaton (I want to read them in order)
- Kinsey Mil-hone series by Sue Grafton
- As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales From the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride is one of my favorite films ever.)
- Landline by Rainbow Rowell
- A Million Junes by Emily Henry (My favorite read from last year, I know I’ll read it again.)
- The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
- The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
What about you? Do you have a book you like to read once a year? Or a book you loved you know you’ll read again? Sound off below and link up to your own TTT if you’ve got one.
Nancy Drew! Harry Potter! yes! My TTT

I imagine a lot of people have Harry Potter on their list this week. 🙂

You listed As You Wish and said the Princess Bride is one of your favorite films, but have you read The Princess Bride? It is one of my favorite books. It is brilliant. Also, do you have a hardcover copy of As You Wish? I just learned on Sunday that the the dust jacket has a super awesome picture on the inside!

I did read The Princess Bride many, many years ago after the film came out. I love the movie so much that I remember liking it even more than the book. That one I definitely need to re-read again. I just learned about the dust jacket on As You Wish a few months ago! It’s so cool!

I don’t reread a lot, but when I do it can go one of 2 ways– ONE, I didn’t remember much about the book at ALL, so it is a fun experience reading it all over again. TWO, the same magic doesn’t happen and I’m kinda sad that I reread the book. The second one is what happened with Harry Potter. I still really really liked it, but it wasn’t as perfect as I thought it would be.

Aw that’s a bummer about Harry Potter. And a good reason to be selective on your re-reads. I agree there are tons of books I’ve read that a few years down the line I won’t remember much about at all.

Harry Potter for sure. I reread Landline and loved it. A Million Junes is one I want to listen to at some point.

I haven’t reread Landline yet but one day I will get to it. I listened to it the first time. I’d like to listen to A Million Junes too. Such a great story!

That’s a good point about thrillers like Gone Girl. Once you know the twists… I do think re- reading Nancy Drew’s might be fun. I did a selected Hardy Boys re- read a few years back and it was a mixed bag, but I’m glad I did it. Maybe I shoud try a few Nancy’s…
I need to read As You Wishh!

I would love to reread more, but there are so many new stories out there to read! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

I love to reread, but I feel guilty about it because my TBR pile is so big. I do try to reread Harry Potter every few years because I love those books.

I actually listen to Harry Potter more than re-read it. Jim Dale’s narration is AMAZING!

I do enjoy a reread though you’re right about not every book working as one. I love the books you’ve mentioned though I haven’t read nearly enough of them! I can definitely see rereading As You Wish though that would mean rewatching the movie which isn’t exactly a hardship!

I know – definitely not a hardship! I rewatch The Princess Bride a lot. My boys and I love quoting it.

Harry Potter was on my list this week too! I actually don’t mind rereading books with twists….I like to see if I can spot any foreshadowing the second time around.

I listened to the audio book, it’s great! Cary Elwes narrates most of it, but they have a lot of the cast come on and read the memories they wrote for the book. It’s really fun.
