November 14: Top Ten Books I Want My Future Children to Read (Or nieces and nephews, Godchildren, etc.)

Hmm…reading this prompt I guess I’m an *old* TTT blogger, since I already am the mother of two children (with zero plans to add any more in the future). 😉

This is a topic very near and dear to my heart. I have two boys, now fifth and eighth grade (where does the time go?!), who are very passionate readers. Right now we read and recommend books to each other, and listen to books together in the car. I’m not adding these to the list, as we are discovering them together. (We are particularly big on adventurous/magical book series like Percy Jackson and Peter and the Starcatchers.)

I know that sometimes you love a book or a genre, but your kids just don’t – and that’s okay. My mom loved cowboy and horse books, but they were just never my thing. I always felt bad that I didn’t like them because she was so excited about them and wanted to share the love she had for those stories. I’m happy that my boys have enjoyed some of my recommendations. Trust me, there have been plenty that they’re just not interested in.

• 11/22/63 by Stephen King
• The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde (they enjoyed the play)
• As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride is one of our favorite films)

Now I’ve got TONS MORE that I could add to this list. I mean, I want my boys to READ ALL THE BOOKS! But these are some of my favorites.
