June 27: Best Books You’ve Read In 2017 So Far

I am so excited about this week’s topic. I have had the pleasure of reading some AMAZING books this year. (And believe it or not, only half of them are mystery/thriller!) Let’s revisit, shall we?

My Favorites of 2017. (So Far)

Cozy Mysteries

Double Up by Gretchen Archer. Davis Way has become one of my favorite cozy series. I adore Ms. Archer’s writing style, and the books are literally laugh-out-loud funny.

Bitter Harvest by Wendy Tyson. I’ve read two books by Ms. Tyson this year, and Bitter Harvest takes a slight edge over Fatal Facade. I love the small town feel and the characters in this Greenhouse mystery series.

Death of a Ghost by M.C. Beaton. The Hamish Macbeth books have been a long time favorite of mine, and it’s always a treat to read the latest outing in Lochdubh.

Thriller

Gone Without a Trace by Mary Torjussen. A great page turner.

The Wrong Side of Goodbye by Michael Connelly. The latest in the Harry Bosch series, another favorite of mine. I really enjoy that Mr. Connelly keeps time moving in the Bosch series, and in this latest outing we get to see what Harry is up to now that he is finally retired from the LAPD.

Fantasy

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. A beautifully written tale of two magicians locked in a contest.

Young Adult

A Million Junes by Emily Henry. If I had to pick a number one favorite book for the year so far, this would be it.

The Lunar Chronicles (series) by Marissa Meyer. Technically we’re not quite done with these. (We’ve read Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, andย Fairest, and are finishing up the last in the series, Winter, probably today. We will most likely listen to the short stories in Stars Above as well.) My boys and I have really enjoyed listening to this series this year while running to and from activities in the car.

Contemporary

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. A beautiful story about a man getting a second chance at life.

Non-Fiction

The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher. If you can, listen to the audio book, narrated by the author. This book is beautiful and, in retrospect, bittersweet.

    • Thank you! AJ Fikry definitely has mixed reviews – I hope you like it. And I loved A Million Junes so much, I’m not sure if any other book I read this year can top it. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I don’t know, I saw a lot of mixed reviews on AJ Fikry, which is why I waited so long to read it. I think based on the description I thought it would be more about the books and the bookstore, but it’s not, which could be disappointing to some people. I hope you like The Night Circus! I just thought all the descriptions were so lovely.
