Hidden Bodies: Watch Out, Los Angeles.

Hidden Bodies (You #2)

By Caroline Kepnes

Rating: 4/5 Stairs

HiddenBodiesJoe Goldberg is back, and he’s as creepy as ever.

If you haven’t read You, I would highly recommend picking it up before diving into it’s sequel Hidden Bodies. You can of course start here, but I don’t know if you’ll get the full effect of just how messed up Joe Goldberg truly is.

You all know I like to keep my reviews spoiler free. So I’ll do my best here to briefly set the scene. Joe has moved on from You to a new girl, the new love of his life. But when he receives a goodbye letter from her, Joe sets out to Los Angeles on a search to right this wrong. His way, of course.

While Ms. Kepnes keeps Joe creepy, she also keeps the story fresh. Joe’s move to LA provides new scenery and new challenges for this native New Yorker. While Hidden Bodies is still written from Joe’s perspective, it’s no longer told directly to one person, but instead just in a general first person dialogue.

Joe is still his obsessive self, imposing his special brand of judgement on people.

My only complaint was that the original purpose of the story seemed to get lost as Joe’s life became more entwined with life and the people he meets in Los Angeles.

If you enjoyed You, I recommend Hidden Bodies. You’ll want to see what LA has in store for Joe. Scratch that. What Joe has in store for LA.

Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
