Top Ten Tuesday (TTT) brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish.
Top Ten Tuesday Freebie — YOUR CHOICE OF TOPIC.
Oh dear. Another free choice. I need structure! I need guidance!
My boys and I have just finished up The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, where twins Alex and Conner get sucked into their fairy tale book (review coming soon!). Alex and Conner are living among the characters in their continuing lives after their fairy tale endings. The twins are trying to collect items to perform The Wishing Spell to get themselves out of the book and back home. This book was the inspiration for my Top Ten Tuesday choice this week…
Top Ten Books You Would Like to Step Into
What if you could be transported into any story (with a means of coming back out, of course)? Which books would you choose?
You Knew I would Pick This
1. Harry Potter. Because who doesn’t want to get their letter to Hogwarts?
Blast from the Past
2. A Nero Wolfe Mystery. 1930’s New York City. I’d love to go for a ride with Archie in his convertible roadster to see the city, and then dine with Wolfe in the evening. Followed up with a glass of beer and talk of murder, of course.
3. Maisie Dobbs. Another outing to the 1930’s, but this time it’s off to London, England to see the sights.
Children’s Time
4. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass. So many adventures! Following the White Rabbit (what could a rabbit possibly be late for?), a Mad Tea Party, the Cheshire Cat. And to leave, all you have to do is wake up. At least in the first book.
5. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Yes, the Wicked Witch of the West is pretty scary (if you don’t have water handy). But it would be worth her wrath to spend some time in Oz and befriend the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion.
Hanging with theĀ Locals
6. Richard Jury Series. The village and residents of Long Pidd are what keep me coming back to the Richard Jury novels. I would love to spend an afternoon at the Jack and Hammer with Melrose Plant and company enjoying their banter while we sat at the table in the front window of the pub.
(OK, that clip totally wasn’t Richard Jury at all but it was Hobbits. In a pub. Drinking pints. So it works. Right?)
7. Hamish MacBeth. Lochdubh in the highlands of Scotland is another small village that I would love to visit. So many locals to chat with throughout the day and maybe a hike in the beautiful country surrounding the village before having a nice dinner at the Italian restaurant.
Just for Fun
8. The Princess Bride. What’s so great about this book? I’ll let Peter Falk tell you. As you wish.
British Detectives
9. Murder on the Orient Express. Enjoy a nice train ride while watching one of the greatest British detectives of all time, Hercule Poirot, in action.
10. And last, but certainly not least – Sherlock Holmes…but could I choose the modern Benedict Cumberbatch rendition?
What about you? What book would you like to step into? Better yet, what was your choice for your open Top Ten this week? Feel free to link up below!
Love your choices – I’d be hard pressed to choose between accompanying Poirot, Hamish, or Archie Goodwin. I might just settle for Hogwarts. š

I know, how would you choose? They would all be such fun! And different. So glad to have another Hamish Macbeth fan here!

Great idea for a topic. I think Alice and Wonderland would be a blast to be in. Fun picks!

Thanks! I know we all love to read books, but there are some that would be fun to actually be a part of. š

Part of me would like to step into Oz after the Wicked Witch had been dealt with. Not sure I’d want to be there while she was there. š

Harry Potter and Narnia for me. š

I’m still waiting for my Hogwarts letter. It must have gotten lost in the mail…Oh, I love The Princess Bride!

I know, mine must be lost with yours!
The Princess Bride is so great! That’s one of the few where I probably like the movie better than the book. š

I actually agree. I do think the movie is better too š

I love your choices. I think I’did like to step into the world through the mirror in Cornelia Funke’s Reckless… although I’m not sure I am brave enough!

I have not read Reckless…sounds like I need to look into that one!

Our topics are similar. It’s interesting you picked Wonderland because I was going to pick that instead of Neverland but changed my mind. Great list. Hogwarts, obviously, is a solid choice.

Yeah, who doesn’t want to go to Hogwarts? š
I didn’t do Neverland because I wanted Disney’s version, not the book version. I love how Disney combines elements of both Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass in to their film. They are both great stories.

JK Rowling wrote such a fantastic universe it just feels like we should be able to visit, doesn’t it?

Oh my gosh. What would I do to go to the real Hogwarts! The world of HP would have definitely been on the top of my list. š And yes, Sherlock! I don’t think I’ve seen a T10T post of yours without Benedict being mentioned. XD

hehe What’s a top ten without Benedict? š I think my first few didn’t have him. I’ll have to figure out how to get him into every post. It will be like my Hidden Staircase Easter Egg. LOL

OK I had to look, he’s only been in the last three top tens of my seven total. But I am going to make it a thing now. š

I don’t know if I’d like to be in Alice in Wonderland. It’s so strange! Haha…! Then again, so is Harry Potter, and I think we’d all wish we could attend Hogwarts. What a great topic!

Thanks! Yeah, wonderland is weird but that’s what makes it fun. š

I think I’d want to step into any world where the ending was open-ended (which includes so many options) just so I could find me some finality haha.
Cheers,
Joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts.

Oh yes! That’s a good point. That way you could really finish that story.

I mean, I’m sure I’d be okay (maybe?) if I was stuck there too. Even if there is no true ending and it’s just another second that passes by, I think I’d be okay with that haha.

I feel like it would be both really fun and really terrifying to visit Wonderland. It’s a cool place, for sure, but it’s also full of giant things that should be small and small things that should be big and absolutely insane people. So – fun and terrifying. š

But if you’ve read the book, you have the upper hand. Except which side of the mushroom makes you grow bigger and which side makes you grow smaller. No one seems to know that. š

This is an amazing idea for your TTT! I would love to step into Harry Potter’s world, but who doesn’t! And Alice…well this is my whole childhood, it would be so much for to see this world from inside! š

So many good choices! And I agree with the updated Sherlock Holmes, though rather than meeting the sleuth, I’d totally hang out with John Watson and Lestrade! š

I couldn’t agree more with Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes. I may be eighteen but I am still waiting for my Hogwarts letter.
Great list! š

Brilliant choices! Definitely want to go to Hogwarts, and I know it wasn’t exactly on your list – but Hobbiton! Not for the beer though – for the mushrooms. And I’d have to add Pride and Prejudice – for the frocks and the dancing (and Darcy)…

Princess Bride and Sherlock almost made my list! Love that though we had really similar ideas, they turned out so different. I would really like to visit the 1930s myself, save that for the time travel list, maybe?
Thanks for stopping by earlier!
