Update: Thanks to Erika the Bibliophile, I now know that this fun alphabet originated with The Perpetual Page-Turner.
Ran across this list on Just My Humble Books, and thought it sounded like fun. So I present to you, my bookish alphabet.
(Feel free to play along and link back to your own post in the comments!)
A. Author You’ve Read The Most Books From
It’s got to be M.C. Beaton. 31 Hamish Macbeth‘s and one Agatha Raisin.
B. Best Sequel Ever
This one is tough. So many sequels just aren’t quite as good as the predecessor. And I don’t really count the many series I read as “sequels.” For the most part, they are all independent mysteries with continued character development, and they do continue to get better or I would stop reading them.
C. Currently Reading
Many, many books! My current list is always in my sidebar under Goodreads. At this exact moment, The Corpse with the Silver Tongue and The Harvest Man. I have two wonderful ebooks I’ve had to put to the side while working through my ARC books I’ve received to review. I am looking forward to picking them back up – Time’s Edge and The Source.
D. Drink of Choice While Reading
Hot chocolate or herbal tea.
E. E-Reader or Physical Books
Physical books. I read ebooks too, but nothing beats the feel of a real book in your hands.
F. Fictional Character You Would Have Dated In High School
Fred Weasley.
G. Glad You Gave This Book A Chance
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I picked it up in 2000 to see what all the fuss was about. At that point in my life I was in my mid-20’s, married with no children – I just wasn’t sure if I would enjoy a children’s book. So glad I gave it a try.
H. Hidden Gem Book
Here’s a recent cozy mystery gem I found and read earlier this year. The Outsmarting of Criminals: A Mystery Introducing Miss Felicity Prim. It was a random pickup at the library – I liked the cover. It was a fun book for book lovers.
I. Important Moments of Your Reading Life
Getting that stack of Nancy Drew books from my Grandmother.
J. Just Finished
I’m always reading a few books at a time, so my just finished at the moment is The Last Bookaneer and The Confessors’ Club, with King and Maxwell (my audio book in the car) finishing probably on my next car ride.
K. Kinds of Books You Won’t Read
I don’t read romance, just not my thing. I also don’t really like the non-fiction adventure-type books.Nothing wrong with either of these genres, they just don’t interest me.
L. Longest Book You’ve Read
I have no idea. The longest one in recent memory is probably 11/22/63, coming in at 849 pages. But I’m sure I’ve read longer than that.
M. Major Book Hangover Because Of
Recently? Probably The Fault in Our Stars. Really I blame Where the Red Fern Grows, which I read when I was around 10 years old. First book (in a long line henceforth) to make me cry.
N. Number of Bookcases You Own
Seven. Nine if you count the two in my boy’s rooms.
O. One Book That You Have Read Multiple Times
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. (Read all the Harry Potter‘s multiple times, but this is my favorite!)
P. Preferred Place to Read
In my comfy red chair on a rainy day, with my dog in my lap.
Q. Quote From A Book That Inspires You/Gives You Feels
This one is pretty easy, considering I just put a lot of thought into this topic for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday (inspirational book quotes). See the link for my top ten list. But my number one, as always, comes from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
You think the dead we loved truly ever leave us? You think that we don’t recall them more clearly in times of great trouble?
R. Reading Regret
Continuing to listen to the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich. But I. Must. Finish.
S. Series You Started and Need to Finish
I am pretty good at starting and finishing series. There are several series that I am actively in the middle of right now. But I will say the Inspector Lynley books. These were my absolute favorite, go-to, must-read books for many years. Then Ms. George killed off a main character in book #13, and the series hasn’t been the same for me since. (Maybe this should be my Major Book Hangover!) I’m two books behind, with a new one coming out this year. I do still love the characters, I just miss the one who is no longer with us, and the relationships in the books have definitely changed because of that death.
T. Three Of Your All-Time Favorite Books
This is difficult to select just three books.
- Harry Potter (the whole series) – J.K. Rowling
- The Importance of Being Earnest – Oscar Wilde
- The Hidden Staircase – Carolyn Keen (always a place in my heart for introducing me to this wonderful genre of mystery)
And The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton gets an honorable mention.
U. Unapologetic Fangirl For
Twilight. Sorry, Edward sucked me in.
W. Worst Bookish Habit
I like to read the last page or two of a book before I start at the beginning. (Ok, ok, sometimes it becomes the entire last chapter.) I know! Terrible. Ebooks do cure me of that.
V. Very Excited For This Release More Than Any Other
I am going to have to go with Furiously Happy, by the always fabulous Jenny Lawson.
X. Marks The Spot (Start On Your Bookshelf And Count to the 27th Book)
Depends on which bookcase and which bookshelf. 😉 In this instance, The Murder Room, by PD James.
Y. Your Latest Book Purchase
That would be my autographed copy of The Patriot Threat. Boom!
Z. ZZZ-Snatcher (last book that kept you up WAY late)
This would be every book I read. I always read when I go to bed, and end up staying up much later than planned.
